# Florida Dental AI Visibility Study

> 89% of AI queries name a dentist. But almost none appear on more than one platform.

*April 2026* · *Florida* · *Dental*

## Study scope

- **750 AI queries tested** — Across 5 dental specialties: general, emergency, cosmetic, pediatric, implant
- **10 Florida metro areas** — Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Naples, Sarasota, Tallahassee, St. Pete
- **5 AI platforms tested** — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude
- **15 Queries per city/specialty** — 3 query types per specialty: best in city, who to call, find a reliable provider

## Headline numbers

- **750** AI Queries Tested
- **10** Florida Metro Areas
- **5** AI Platforms Analyzed
- **1** Dentist on All 5

## Key findings

- **89% — Named Practices.** AI platforms named specific local dental practices 89% of the time when asked for recommendations.
- **94.7% — Single Platform.** Nearly every practice appeared on just one AI platform. Cross-platform visibility is almost nonexistent.
- **1 — On All 5 Platforms.** Only one dental practice appeared on all five AI platforms. This is worse than any other industry we have studied.
- **5-56% — Platform Agreement.** When two platforms both recommended practices, they agreed on at least one name 5-56% of the time.
- **45% — Google AI Gap.** Google AI Overviews only triggered 45% of the time for dental queries vs. 59% for home services.
- **3.0% — DSO Share.** Dental Service Organizations (franchises) account for only 3.0% of AI recommendations. Independent practices dominate.
- **67% — Emergency Visibility.** Emergency dental queries trigger Google AI Overviews 67% of the time vs. 37% for cosmetic.
- **92% — Miami Leads.** Miami leads with a 92% A-Response Rate while West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, and St. Pete are lowest at 84-87%.

## What the data shows

- **AI does recommend dentists by name.** 89% of queries returned specific local dental practice names with details. AI is not generic for dental.
- **But almost no one appears on more than one platform.** 94.7% of the 2,548 practices recommended appeared on just a single AI tool. Cross-platform visibility is nearly nonexistent.
- **Only one dentist made all five platforms.** This is worse than home services (1.5%), contractors (2.1%), and every other industry we have studied.
- **Google AI Overviews barely show up for dental.** AI Overviews only triggered 45% of the time for dental queries vs. 59% for home services. Emergency queries triggered most often (67%).
- **AI platforms do not agree on who to recommend.** The highest agreement between any two platforms was Claude and Perplexity at 56%. ChatGPT and Google agreed just 19% of the time.
- **Independent practices dominate AI results.** DSOs like Aspen and Coast Dental account for only 3% of AI recommendations. Independent practices hold 97%.
- **Miami leads. St. Pete trails.** A-Response Rates range from 92% in Miami to 87% in St. Pete, but geography matters less than specialty. Emergency queries outperform cosmetic by 8 points.
- **Each platform uses different data sources.** ChatGPT pulls from Bing and Healthgrades. Perplexity cites review aggregators. Claude searches Yelp and practice websites. You need a strategy for each one.

## The bottom line

> If your dental practice only shows up on Google, you are invisible on 4 out of 5 AI platforms where patients are already searching. And the platforms that do find you probably disagree on whether to recommend you.

AI is already recommending dentists to patients. But AI platforms do not agree on who to recommend, and almost no practices are visible across multiple platforms. The practices that figure out AI visibility first will have a significant competitive advantage.

## Methodology

750 queries were run across ChatGPT (GPT-4o with search), Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Claude during March-April 2026. Queries covered 10 Florida metro areas and 5 dental specialties. Every response was coded by type (local practice named, general advice, franchise only, platform referral, or not triggered). No sponsored placements or paid tools were used. Full methodology is included in the report.
