## What the data shows

- **AI does recommend electricians by name.** 75.8% of queries returned specific local electrician names. But that means 24.2% of the time, someone asking AI for an electrician got no specific recommendation at all.
- **Nearly every electrician appeared on only one platform.** 97.7% of the 1,646 electricians recommended showed up on just a single AI tool. Not one electrician appeared on all five platforms.
- **ChatGPT names someone every single time.** 100% response rate from ChatGPT vs. just 38% from Google AI Overviews. The gap between platforms is enormous.
- **Google AI Overviews barely trigger for electrical queries.** Only 38% of Google searches for electricians showed an AI answer. But panel upgrade queries triggered AI Overviews 67% of the time, more than double the rate for general electrician queries.
- **AI platforms do not agree on who to recommend.** The highest agreement between any two platforms was 16.2% (Perplexity and Claude). ChatGPT agreed with no other platform on a single recommendation.
- **Independents dominate completely.** Franchises like Mr. Electric and Mister Sparky account for only 3.8% of AI recommendations. 96.2% are independent electricians.
- **Miami leads. West Palm Beach trails.** A-Response Rates range from 90.7% in Miami to 56.7% in West Palm Beach, a 34-point gap that is the widest city spread of any industry we have studied.
- **Angi is the dominant citation source.** Angi was cited in 198 queries, followed by Yelp at 170. Together they account for the majority of AI source data for electricians.

## The bottom line

> If your electrical business only shows up on Google, you are invisible on 4 out of 5 AI platforms where customers are already searching. And the platforms that do find you almost certainly disagree on whether to recommend you.

AI is already recommending electricians to customers. But AI platforms completely disagree on who to recommend, and virtually no electricians are visible across multiple platforms. The businesses that figure out multi-platform AI visibility first will capture customers their competitors never even knew were searching.

## Methodology

650 queries were run across ChatGPT (GPT-4o with search), Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Claude during April 2026. Queries covered 10 Florida metro areas and 5 electrical specialties. Every response was coded by type (local business named, general advice, franchise only, platform referral, or not triggered). No sponsored placements or paid tools were used. Full methodology is included in the report.
