Do you need an agency for AI visibility? An honest answer for a one-truck business.

If you run a small service business, someone has probably tried to sell you “AI SEO” already. The pitch usually comes with a monthly retainer and a lot of words you do not use.

Here is an honest answer. Most one-truck businesses do not need an agency for this. Some do, and some should not spend a dollar on it yet.

I run Local Vitals, so I am not neutral. I will walk you through what we sell, what it costs, and who should not buy it.

What does AI visibility actually take?

It takes the basics, done well and done everywhere AI looks. That means a complete Google Business Profile, a website that says what you do and where, matching details on directories like the BBB and Yelp, and a steady flow of reviews.

In our 600-query home services study, the businesses that showed up on every AI tool shared those habits. None of it is secret. It is work that is easy to put off when you are on a job all day.

Step 1: The free scan ($0)

Everyone should start here. The free scan checks whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews name your business, and flags critical issues it finds.

It takes about 60 seconds and needs no credit card. If it shows you on most of the five tools, you may not need anything else from us.

Can I do it myself instead?

Yes, and it mostly costs time. The common fixes are completing your Google Business Profile, asking for reviews that name the job, making your website say what you do and where, and matching your details across directories.

None of those need paid software. Our posts on your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and your website walk through each one for free.

Step 2: The full diagnostic ($247)

The diagnostic is for owners who saw a gap in the free scan and want to know exactly why it is there and how to close it.

It covers 21 checkpoints, from what AI says about you to how easily machines can read your website. It names what your competitors have that you do not, and gives you a fix list in order. You also get a 30-minute walkthrough call with me.

It is built for owners who would rather do the work themselves, or hand the list to someone in the office.

The ladder: free scan ($0), full diagnostic ($247), 90-Day Sprint ($997 a month for 3 months, $2,991 total). Most one-truck businesses should stop at step one or two.

Step 3: The 90-Day Sprint ($997 a month for 3 months)

The Sprint is for owners who know they have a gap and do not have the time to close it themselves. We do the work over 90 days.

It is $2,991 total and includes the full diagnostic up front. It covers 12 deliverables, including a Google Business Profile overhaul, a review response plan, a calendar of Google posts, links from sites in your trade, and a before-and-after check of what AI says about you.

Who should not buy the diagnostic or the Sprint?

If the free scan shows you on most of the AI tools, do not buy anything. Keep doing what you are doing.

If you are booked out for weeks and turning work away, more visibility will not help you right now. Come back when you have room to grow.

If nobody in your business will make changes to your Google profile or website, the diagnostic will be a report you read once. Save the $247.

If you need calls this week, this is not the fastest path. AI tools take time to notice changes. Paid ads are faster, though they stop the day you stop paying.

If $2,991 over three months would strain your budget, skip the Sprint. The diagnostic's fix list is enough to work through on your own.

If you just opened and have almost no reviews yet, start by asking your first customers for them. The diagnostic would mostly tell you that.

When does an agency make sense?

An agency makes sense when the scan shows a big gap, the fix list is long, and your time is worth more on jobs than on a laptop. That is the case for our Sprint, or for any agency you hire.

Whoever you hire, ask them to show you what AI says about your business today and to check again at the end. If they cannot show you a before and after, keep looking.

Be wary of anyone who promises you a ranking or a guaranteed spot in ChatGPT's answer. Nobody controls what AI says. A good agency works on the information AI reads about you: your profiles, listings, reviews, and website.

And ask what you will own when they are done. Your profiles, your listings, and your website edits should stay with you if you stop paying.

Where should you start?

With the free scan. It costs nothing, and it tells you which step, if any, makes sense for your business.

Start with the free scan. No card, about 60 seconds.
